Delhi University CGPA to Percentage Calculator

Convert your University of Delhi CGPA to percentage using the official formula.

University of Delhi (DU) covers undergraduate programmes across roughly 90 affiliated colleges — St. Stephen's, Hindu, Miranda House, Hansraj, Ramjas, LSR, SRCC, and the rest. DU's CBCS formula is Percentage = CGPA × 9.5, so a perfect 10 CGPA prints 95% (not 100%) on a CBCS transcript. Students admitted under the NEP / UGCF framework from 2022-23 onwards moved to Percentage = CGPA × 10. The calculator below defaults to the CBCS formula because most outstanding alumni transcripts predate the NEP rollout — UGCF batch students should switch the scheme picker to NEP / UGCF, and the formula, conversion table and worked example all follow. On classes, DU is stricter than the internet thinks: Ordinance IX gives CBCS students First Division at 60%, Second Division at 50% and Third Division below 50%, and there is no Distinction tier at any percentage. For the NEP/UGCF scheme DU has published a conversion formula but no division criteria at all, so this page shows the percentage and no class rather than invent a band.

DU moved to the NEP/UGCF framework for students admitted 2022-23 onwards. Both frameworks award the same 75% / 60% / 50% bands, but reach them at different CGPAs — a CGPA of 8.0 is 76% under CBCS and 80% under NEP.

Source: University of Delhi Notification Ref. No. Dean (Exams)/2017/9126 dated 20.12.2017 for the CBCS formula (× 9.5), and Notification Ref. No. CNC-II/093/1(22)/2022-23/ dated 10.02.2023 — Addition to Ordinance VIII, EC Resolution No. 60-1/(60-1-13) — for the NEP/UGCF formula (× 10). The 2017 notification states 'Final Percentage of marks = C.G.P.A. based on all six semesters × 9.5', w.e.f. the CBCS examinations of May/June 2018; the 2023 notification's clause 10 states that the final percentage 'shall be calculated as Grand CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) multiplied by a factor of 10'. This page defaults to CBCS, where CGPA 10.0 = 95%, not 100% — NEP/UGCF students (admitted 2022-23 onwards) should switch the picker above, and the formula, table and worked example all follow. The divisions come from a third document, DU's University Calendar, Ordinance IX clause 12, which governs students 'admitted to the Three Year Under-graduate programme under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)' and names exactly three: First Division at 60%, Second at 50%, Third below 50% with every paper passed. There is no Distinction tier at DU, whatever else you may have read. For NEP/UGCF, DU has published the formula but no division criteria at all, so that scheme shows a percentage and no class rather than a band we would have to invent. DU's divisions anchor at percentage, not CGPA; the CGPA values shown are the formula equivalents. ✓ Verified 16 July 2026

Delhi University CGPA — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Delhi University CGPA to percentage formula?

University of Delhi uses a different formula depending on your scheme. CBCS — admitted before 2022-23: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 — a CGPA of 8.5 equals 80.75%. NEP / UGCF — admitted 2022-23 or later: Percentage = CGPA × 10 — a CGPA of 8.5 equals 85.00%. Pick your scheme in the calculator above to convert your own CGPA.

What is the grading system at Delhi University?

Delhi University uses a 10-point grading scale. The highest grade is O (80-100 marks, 10 grade points) and the lowest passing grade is D.

Is this the official Delhi University formula?

This formula is based on University of Delhi Notification Ref. For official purposes, always verify with your college's examination department.

What CGPA do I need for distinction at Delhi University?

Short answer: at DU, you don't. Delhi University does not award a Distinction on its undergraduate degrees at all. Ordinance IX clause 12 — the clause governing CBCS three-year UG courses — lists exactly three categories, based on the final percentage: First Division at 60% or more, Second Division at 50% or more but less than 60%, and Third Division below 50% where all papers are passed. There is no 75% band and no Distinction band anywhere in it. You will find plenty of sites — this one included, until we sat down and read the ordinance — claiming DU awards 'First Division with Distinction' at 75%. No DU regulation says so. So under the CBCS formula (Percentage = CGPA × 9.5), First Division starts at 60%, which is a CGPA of about 6.32, and Second Division at 50%, about 5.27 — and a 9.0 CGPA (85.5%) earns exactly the same First Division as a 6.4. For NEP/UGCF students (admitted 2022-23 onwards, Percentage = CGPA × 10), DU has published the × 10 formula but no division criteria at all, so we show no class rather than guess one.
