How CGPA is Calculated from SGPA

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the weighted average of all semester SGPAs:

CGPA = Σ(SGPA × Credits) ÷ Σ(Credits)

If you don't know your semester credits, the calculator uses a simple average (assumes equal credits per semester). For more accurate results, enter the total credits for each semester.

What SGPA Do I Need Next Semester?

Use the Target CGPA feature: enter your current CGPA and target, and the calculator will tell you the minimum SGPA you need in your next semester to achieve your goal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is your GPA for one semester. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the weighted average across all completed semesters. CGPA gives your overall academic standing.

Should I enter credits for each semester?

If you know the total credits per semester, enter them for a more accurate CGPA. If you don't, leave them blank — the calculator will assume equal weights (simple average), which is a reasonable approximation for most Indian universities.

My university uses SPI/CPI instead of SGPA/CGPA. Can I still use this?

Yes. SPI (Semester Performance Index) is the same as SGPA, and CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) is the same as CGPA. The calculation method is identical — just different terminology used by some universities like GTU.
